B9 11585. EU verheugd over WTO-toetreding Rusland na 18 jaar onderhandelen. Na 18 jaar onderhandelen treedt Rusland vandaag als 156e lid tot de Wereldhandelsorganisatie (WTO) toe. Deze toetreding is voor de EU van bijzonder belang. Als gevolg van zijn toetreding tot de WTO zal Rusland onder meer (…) op vele gebieden die voor de bilaterale economische betrekkingen van belang zijn, zijn regels en procedures vereenvoudigen. Pirate Patch heft url-blokkade Pirate Bay op. Een Nederlandse Pirate Bay-gebruiker heeft een open source Windows-applicatie gemaakt waardoor de oorspronkelijke domeinnaam van het geblokkeerde Pirate Bay weer verschijnt. Apple en Samsung even uitgeruzied, jury begonnen aan monsterklus. De grote patentrechtszaak tussen Apple en Samsung in de Verenigde Staten is ten einde. De twee grootste smartphonefabrikanten ter wereld hebben gisteren hun slotpleidooien gehouden, nu buigt een jury zich over het complexe geheel van gegevens en beschuldigingen om te bepalen wie de winnaar is. De Partij voor de Dieren vindt dat alle legale informatie op het internet voor iedereen toegankelijk moet zijn. Internetaanbieders mogen de toegang tot websites of het gebruik van diensten niet beperken. We zijn tegen een downloadverbod, omdat de kans groot is dat de privacy van individuele burgers bij handhaving daarvan geschonden zal worden.

German publishers in online copyright fight. Step into a German cafe and you'll likely find most of your fellow customers leafing through a newspaper or magazine. The consumption of printed media here borders on the voracious - and it's comparatively rare to find your neighbour flicking through an iPad or squinting their way through a story rendered in eight-point-type on their smartphone. But while the traditional press is relatively buoyant here, some of Germany's biggest publishing firms are now pushing for a "neighbouring right" which could fundamentally alter how their content can be shared and accessed online. The Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances will strengthen the precarious position of many struggling film actors and other performers by providing a clearer international legal framework for their protection. It will give performers stronger economic rights and valuable extra income. Exactly how much will depend on how the treaty is put into national legislation and implemented. The Treaty provides a legal framework setting an expectation that countries that become party to it will pay for the use of foreign audiovisual performances, and encourage some or all of that revenue to go to the performers involved, the vast majority of whom earn very little.
