Gurry wins Committee vote for next Director General of WIPO

Intellectual Property Watch bericht: "After a bumpy road, Francis Gurry, the director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization, today was recommended by the WIPO Coordination Committee to be returned to office for another six-year term. The recommendation will head to the full membership in May with the expectation that it will be accepted.

WIPO Deputy Director General Geoffrey Onyeama and Panama Ambassador Alfredo Suescum Alfaro took the floor before the start of the second round of voting and withdrew. In the first round, Gurry received 46 votes, with Onyeama coming in second with 20, Suescum third with 10, and Estonian Ambassador Jüri Seilenthal with 7.

The Coordination Committee is the member state executive body made up of 83 members."
