Uit onderzoek onder het Ondernemerspanel van de Kamer van Koophandel blijkt dat één op de tien ondernemers wel eens een conflict over een handelsnaam, merknaam of domeinnaam heeft gehad met een andere ondernemer. Kabelradio.nl stopt vanwege embed-tax. Radioportal Kabelradio.nl maakte geen gebruik van embedden maar bood alleen links aan naar players van radiostations. Toch is de website gestopt omdat onzeker is wanneer wel en wanneer niet betaald hoeft te worden. In de definities die Buma/Stemra hanteert wordt namelijk niet gesproken over embedding, alleen over het "opnieuw beschikbaar stellen" van RTV-zenders. BitTorrent-verkeer VS op dieptepunt. Het BitTorrent-verkeer in de VS heeft zijn laagste niveau ooit bereikt. Dat meldt TorrentFreak. Opvallend is dat Europa en Azië de trend niet volgen. BitTorrent-verkeer, dat meestal wordt geassocieerd met illegale downloads, maakt voor 11,3 procent deel uit van het Amerikaanse internetverkeer op piektijden. Frank Zappa Trademark No Longer Valid in Germany, Court Rules. Frank Zappa’s family trust can’t use a trademark named after the late American rock star to prevent a German music festival from using the title “Zappanale,” the country’s top civil court ruled. The trademark “ZAPPA,” which the U.S. based Zappa Family Trust filed in Europe and cited in the case, lost its protection because it wasn’t used within five years after registration, the court said in statement on its website today. Momenteel ontvangt Herman Verbaet, de bedenker en voormalige producent van de soap, nog altijd 40 procent van de inkomsten uit de auteursrechten. Creatieve sectoren verenigd in Dutch Creative Industries Council. De Nederlandse creatieve industrie heeft donderdag in Amsterdam de Dutch Creative Industries Council opgericht. De Council is een onafhankelijke strategische adviesraad voor en door de creatieve bedrijfstakken. Een dergelijke adviesrfaad staat al geruime tijd op het verlanglijstje van brancheorganisaties uit de creatieve industrie, en kreeg vorig jaar prioriteit van het Topteam Creatieve Industrie. The federal district judge in the widely reported Oracle v. Google case ruled in favor of innovation and interoperability, allowing software to use Application Programming Interfaces without paying a license fee. Google dealt blow in book scanning lawsuit. Judge rules Google Book Search lawsuit can proceed as a giant class action. The coalition of authors suing to stop Google Book Search scored a key victory on Thursday as the judge overseeing the case ruled that three individual authors and the Author's Guild could represent the class of all authors whose works had been scanned by Google. Google had sought the opposite result, arguing that including all authors in a single lawsuit would make the case too complex, and that most authors actually supported the scanning project. .combat. A messy and expensive row is brewing over new suffixes for internet addresses. It is the online equivalent of the land-grabs of 19th-century America. Earlier this year the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the outfit in charge of addresses in cyberspace, allowed applications for new suffixes. That would allow new domains, such as .microsoft, .paris and .music, to join the 22 existing handles, such as .com and .info. This move has generated excitement, but also controversy. French court: YouTube has done 'enough' to avoid copyright liability. The Tribunal de Grande Instance said that Google had made enough of an effort to remove copyrighted content that had been uploaded by YouTube users which the biggest TV company in France held rights for when told about the material's existence. Kritiek op activiteiten NOS misplaatst. NOS-directeur Jan de Jong stelt in een lange blogpost begrip te hebben voor de moeilijke situatie waarin kranten zitten, maar dat kritiek op vermeende marktverstorende activiteiten van zijn organisatie misplaatst is. De bezoekcijfers van andere partijen (Telegraaf: 300 miljoen pageviews per maand / NU: 400 miljoen) zijn hoger dan die van de NOS (288 miljoen per maand), wat bewijst dat het publiek nu al meerdere sites bezoekt, aldus De Jong.
