Het nieuwe beleid moet ervoor zorgen dat als een frauderende wetenschapper van baan verandert, de nieuwe werkgever van een eerdere veroordeling op de hoogte is, zegt de Vereniging van Universiteiten (VSNU) in een toelichting op het aangescherpte integriteitsbeleid voor wetenschappers, dat vandaag is gepubliceerd. Principe-akkoord Modelcontract LUG-VvL Modelcontract literaire vertalingen. Het nieuwe Modelcontract voor de uitgave van een vertaling van een literair werk is een feit. In het contract is zowel de exploitatie van het papieren boek, als die van de digitale versie geregeld. De Literaire Uitgeversgroep van de Groep Algemene Uitgevers (GAU, onderdeel van het Nederlands Uitgeversverbond NUV) en de Vereniging van Letterkundigen (VvL, afdeling van de Vereniging van Schrijvers en Vertalers, VSenV) hopen het nieuwe Modelcontract uiterlijk in juni definitief te kunnen publiceren. Vier jaar cel voor illegale filmaanbieder. De oprichter van de omstreden Duitse streamingdienst Kino.to is donderdag tot viereneenhalf jaar straf veroordeeld. De 39-jarige verdachte werd rijk met het aanbieden van illegale films. Een jaar geleden viel de politie binnen bij adressen in Nederland, Duitsland en Frankrijk, waarbij niet minder dan dertien personen werden aangehouden. Politie waarschuwt voor e-mail-nepboetes voor downloaden. De politie Noord-Holland Noord waarschuwt voor internetoplichting via e-mails die van de politie afkomstig lijken. De slachtoffers krijgen bericht dat ze wegens het downloaden van muziek een boete van 100 euro moeten betalen. 40-year EU patent fight nears end, London permitting. An agreement has been reached among 25 EU states to launch a unified patent using English, French and German as its official languages. And the only thing left to decide is the seat of the patent court -- contested by London, Berlin, Paris and The Hague. EU ambassadors meeting on Thursday to prepare a crucial summit of leaders on June 28-29 were told by EU president Herman Van Rompuy's staff that the bloc's 'Mr Fixit' will table a "fair and rational" proposal in a determined bid to break the impasse. Spanish Supreme Court rules in favor of Google search engine. On 3 April 2012, the Spanish Supreme Court issued a major ruling in favor of the Google search engine (including its “cache copy” service): “This ruling is very good news for the recent doctrinal attempts to bring some flexibility in the way copyright laws are being interpreted and applied. Trilogue agreement on the Orphan Works Directive. On Wednesday last week an informal deal was struck between the Parliament and the Council, together with the Commission, on an “agreed text” on an orphan works directive. To enter into force, the directive now has to be approved by the Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI), the plenary of the Parliament and the Council. France Busts Counterfeit Ring Involving Hermès Employees. The only thing worse than someone counterfeiting Hermès bags is someone counterfeiting Hermès bags with the help of Hermès’s own employees. France’s national police busted an international crime ring that produced fake Hermès bags aided by the iconic brand’s own employees on Thursday, WWD reports. Internet faciliteert handel in nepmedicijnen. De snelle groei van het internet heeft gezorgd voor een enorme handel in nepmedicijnen. Dat zei een onderzoeker van het farmaceutische bedrijf Pfizer donderdag op een congres in de Filipijnse hoofdstad Manilla. Volgens hem wordt ''90 procent van de nepmedicijnen op het internet verhandeld''. Door gebruik te maken van webwinkels voorkomen bedriegers dat ze op een fysiek adres zijn terug te vinden. Zenders blij met uitspraak programmagegevens. RTL Nederland en SBS Broadcasting zijn blij dat De Telegraaf direct moet stoppen met het publiceren van de weekgegevens van tv-programma's. De rechtbank oordeelde woensdag in een kort geding dat de krant de programma-informatie van de week erop niet zonder toestemming mag publiceren. Dat had De Telegraaf gedaan. Hoge Raad: Exhibitieplicht art. 843a Rv geldt ook bij hoofdzaak buiten Nederland. Een vordering tot exhibitie van bescheiden (art. 843a Rv) kan worden ingesteld hetzij in een lopend geding, hetzij in een afzonderlijk geding (vgl. HR 6 oktober 2006, LJN AX7774). 1,930 Applications For New Domains: .App More Desirable Than .Sex. It is not .sex (or .sexy) anymore, it is .app that companies investing in new domains on the internet think most desirable: 13 applications to operate a future .app registry have been filed with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which revealed a complete list of 1,930 new top level domain (TLD) applications at a press conference in London on 13 June. The Respondent does not use the Domain Name in any way since the Domain Name resolves to the homepage of a hosting company, but is not prepared to transfer the Domain Name unless an “appropriate transfer price” is paid. Taking also into account that the Respondent had actual knowledge of and intent to target the Complainant’s trademark, and the Respondent has provided no evidence whatsoever of any actual or contemplated good-faith use by it of the Domain Name, the Panel finds that this type of holding can be considered as use in bad faith. Negotiators Set to Wrap-up Talks on New Treaty to Improve Actors’ and other Performers’ Rights in Audiovisual Productions. The stage is set for a new international treaty that would extend the protection for audiovisual performers, granting them both economic and moral rights similar to those already recognized for music performers. Over 500 negotiators from WIPO’s 185 member states, as well as actors, industry and other stakeholder organizations will meet in Beijing from June 20 to 26, 2012 to finalize discussions on an international treaty to update the intellectual property rights of audiovisual performers, such as film and TV actors and actresses.
