B9 10885. Ivo Belet (EVP, CD&V). VARA-TV programma verspreidde nepbericht over plagiaat Joan Franka.

Minder patentaanvragen Nederlandse bedrijven. Fake Labels Hidden Beneath Fake Labels. They looked like popular UGG brand boots. But tags on their heels read “XMX,” and they had generic tread on their bottoms. Once the boots cleared customs at two New Jersey ports, they were taken to nearby warehouses, where, prosecutors said, workers ripped off the dummy tags to reveal an UGG label and that brand’s signature soles. But even those were fake, federal officials said Friday in announcing what they said was the breakup of two overlapping criminal rings that took part in an elaborate scheme to sell $325 million worth of counterfeit goods throughout the United States.

Why deleting your Pinterest boards over copyright concerns is an overreaction. Kirsten Kowalski of DDK Portraits wrote a blog post about why she  “tearfully” took down her Pinterest boards. The reason she gave was her concern over copyright infringement and the liability she felt she had opened up. (…) . The short answer I have given to my friends is that Ms. Kowalski is, in my view, being overly cautious. The longer answer is below. Lees hier meer (Lextechnologiae).

The right to be forgotten. Spain asks the ECJ whether Google must delete links to personal data. A Spanish Court has made today a referral to the European Union Court of Justice regarding the so-called right to be forgotten. The issue is in essence whether individuals have the right to oblige search engines to erase or block search results that point to personal information. Lees hier meer.

German Government Wants Google To Pay To Show News Snippets. Some bad ideas just keep on coming back, despite the fact that they are manifestly stupid. Trying to get Google and others to pay for the privilege of sending more traffic to newspapers by including short snippets from their stories is one of them. Of course, logic would dictate that the newspapers should be paying Google for the marketing it provides, but unfortunately not everyone sees it that way. Lees hier meer (Techdirt).

Navajos sue over trademark infringement. U.S. retailer Urban Outfitters' use of the term Navajo costs the Navajo Nation millions of dollars, the tribe said in a lawsuit filed this week. American Indian tribes have additional protection on top of trademark laws. The Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990 bars non-Indians from using tribal names and symbols and was designed to protect tribal artisans. Lees hier meer (UPI).

Romney, Santorum & Gingrich Sued For Patent Infringement Over Facebook Usage. Along With Millions Of FB Users.  I'm kind of wondering if Hollywood-based patent attorney and patent holder Frank Weyer is trying to turn the Republican presidential field anti-patent. Weyer, via his company EVERYMD, holds US Patent 7,644,122 concerning internet groups, (…) EVERYMD appears to be claiming that Facebook business accounts that offer home pages for members of a group (that also allow the ability to send messages/comments) infringes on the patent.
